The three-day weekend provides a livingexperience – meeting Christ and meeting fellow Christians and sharingChrist with them. It begins on a Thursday evening and ends on thefollowing Sunday evening. During these three days, those attending liveand work together, listening to and discussing talks given by theclergy and laity. The talks on the weekend have a specific purpose topresent a vision of the Christian life, and, therefore do not provide ageneral introduction to Christianity or a summary of all Christiandoctrine.
THE BASIC atmosphere of aFourth Day weekend differs from the individual solitude of a retreat.During the three days, the teachings of Christ are discussed in aclimate of joy. The talks and discussions are interspersed with prayer,Eucharist, songs, recreation, laughter and moments of reflection andsilence. There is nothing dull about a Fourth Day weekend! It is fullof work enjoyed in the name of Jesus Christ. It is a joyous workshop inthe fundamentals of our Christian faith where everyone learns byexperiencing a living Christian community.
AFourth Day weekend is an encounter with Christ. If that is understood, then the power, beauty and joy of the Fourth Day movement will beunderstood. The Fourth Day method described on the weekend provides ameans to continue in Christian growth after the weekend. The resultingChristian community is a group of men and women who live the Christianlife, linked with Christ and supporting one another in theirenvironment. This support is found in two post-Fourth Day activities.Individuals meet frequently in small groups with close friends formutual sharing, encouragement and support. The larger Anglican 4 th Day Community comes together in monthly “Ultreyas” meeting for worship, sharing and fellowship.
